The Grandparents Day event grants program, administered by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), funds community events that celebrate grandparents, step grandparents, grand-friends, kin carers and provide opportunities for older people to participate in activities with their families and communities.
About the grants program
NSW Grandparents Day celebrates the contributions grandparents make to their families and communities. The campaign recognises the diversity of grandparent relationships across age groups, cultural backgrounds, and geographical locations. Grandparents, step grandparents, grand-friends, kin carers, and those who take on the role of a grandparent in their family or community are celebrated for their contributions. It aims to foster intergenerational learning and offers older people ongoing opportunities to participate in their local communities.
NSW Grandparents Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in October and this year will be held on Sunday 27 October 2019.
A total of $200,000 will be allocated to NSW local councils, organisations and community groups to deliver events and/or activities that support the NSW Grandparents Day objectives.
The objectives of NSW Grandparents Day are to:
- Recognise and celebrate the contribution of grandparents, grand-friends, step-grandparents, kin carers, and all people who take on the role of a grandparent in their family and local community
- Foster greater understanding across all generations and awareness of the value of grandparents and other people who take on the role of a grandparent.
